Birth Certificates

As a new parent, obtaining a birth certificate for your newborn is essential. A birth certificate acts as a proof of citizenship and is required when applying for other important forms of personal documentation, government cards and government services and programs.

You can obtain a birth certificate for your child from the provincial or territorial government in which he or she was born. Each province and territory in Canada has its own procedure when handling birth certificate applications.
