Nursery Furniture...Check!

We finally got nursery furniture and I couldn’t be happier.

We were able to find a place that offered an amazing deal on the crib, change table and glider. In addition to the three pieces, we got a crib mattress (with a 10 year warranty!) and change table mattress. I think we’re set. All pieces are solid wood and we selected a dark java colour that goes very well with our newly painted beige walls. One thing I love about the change table is that it’s actually a dresser. The changing pad can either be strapped to the top or we can hold it in place by inserting a non slip rug pad underneath (you can purchase squares at the dollar store). This way, when our son becomes potty trained; we still have a beautiful dresser. Purchasing a combo change table/dresser is becoming very popular now as people see the benefit of gaining two pieces for the price of one.

We also went with a convertible crib. I know I was debating on this in a previous post, but we were offered a great deal and our particular model converts into a day bed without having to spend extra on a conversion kit. Now, if we wish to convert the crib to a full size bed, we do need to purchase rails for about $100. But I figure this is still a great deal for a nice bed.

So our son has nicer furniture in his bedroom than we do! I originally thought he could bring it all to University with him someday, but I might just be tempted to keep it for myself!

Maybe a Birth Plan Will Help Me Feel More in Control of The Inevitable

The end of my pregnancy is quickly approaching. I’ll be full term (37 weeks) in just four weeks so I’ve really been thinking about preparing for the birth.

Something I came across while researching labour is a birth plan. This is new to me but it sure sounds interesting. What it is is a list of expectations and wishes to hand to the doctors when you go into labour.
Some of the issues addressed in birth plans include:
• The wish to get an epidural
• Whether you want to be confined to a bed or have the freedom to walk around
• Whether you want to wear a hospital gown or your own clothes
• A certain position you would like to give birth in
• Whether or not you would like an episiotomy

Your birth plan is customized to your particular wants and needs. This is a great way to ensure you feel as comfortable as possible while in labour. Of course giving birth can come with some complications and your birth plan might just have to be tossed, but it’s nice to feel like you can have some control in an otherwise uncontrollable situation!

I am interested in creating a birth plan but don’t know how to approach my doctor with it. I am starting my prenatal classes this week. Hopefully I’ll have the opportunity to ask other moms to be if they will be creating a birth plan.

The Ho Hums of Being 33 Weeks Pregnant

I’m now 33 weeks pregnant! What does it feel like? Well, truth be told, it feels exhausting!

At the end of each day, I feel as though I’ve ended the longest workout of life, only to have to do it again the next day. My ankles and feet are swelling, my back is hurting and I’m now suffering from indigestion and heart burn. Oh heart burn! I’ve never experienced it before and it hurts!

My son is now rapidly growing, about a ½ pound a week (or more) and since it’s nearing the end, his head is down and ready for his debut. It’s getting quite heavy to carry him around now. He’s also moving quite a bit and there are some days when he kicks me so hard in the ribs it really hurts!

I feel as though I complain a lot but I also don’t want to sugar coat things. I do believe some women have easy pregnancies and actually enjoy their full nine months. But this is about my personal experience and I have to be honest, it’s been one long marathon.

Of course I’ve had some good days in addition to the bad. I just have to keep reminding myself that the best part will be reaching the finish line and meeting my son. In one way the day can’t come soon enough, in another, I’m far from ready.
