Playing Favourites
Benjamin’s playing favourites. And this time, daddy’s “it”.A couple of weeks ago, he was all about his mommy. He would cling to me when he met new people, run into my arms when he fell down and would even kiss me goodnight!
But it seems my son has had a change of heart.
My husband went away for a couple of days for work last week and I think this is when things changed. Benjamin noticed his dad wasn’t around. In fact, one day he even turned to me and said “daddy” with a questioning look on his face. It was evident he missed his father.
When my husband returned, I told him how much his son had missed him. Of course, my husband absolutely loved hearing this (what parent wouldn’t?). And what he loved more was the fact that our son was extra clingy with him upon his return.
I love watching my son and my husband connect but, I’ll admit, I selfishly have been feeling a little left out lately.
Just today, Benjamin fell down and started crying. He got up and ran right past me and into my husband’s arms. And yesterday, he picked up a book to read and started to bring to it me until my husband walked into the room. At this point, he decided to bring the book over to him instead.
I know it’s normal for kids to favour one parent over the other on any given day. And I know I’m being silly by being sensitive about it!
