Oh My Back!

Am I really just 29? Because I feel like I’m 50 years older than that!

My hips are sore and crack whenever I walk (or stand or sit or sleep for that matter) and my back (oh my back!) is just unbearable if I stand too long or walk too far (or sit or sleep). It’s become quite an impediment to my daily activities and I end my days whining endlessly to my husband about it. He’s been amazing but how many nights a week will my husband draw me a bath or rub my feet before he gets tired of it? Maybe I should seek out a chiropractor.

I’ve never been to a chiropractor. I know most women suffer from a sore back while pregnant; these two symptoms just seem to go hand in hand like other unappealing pregnancy symptoms such as gas, memory lapse and fatigue. But of course I feel as though my pain must be more excruciating compared to the pain other women feel. While I realize this isn’t true, I am only 22 weeks along and I’m already feeling as though I’m walking with a waddle. Today it was actually more like a limp but that could be from the busy weekend I had. I never stopped to rest! Perhaps I should start doing more of that or else by the time the baby comes I won’t be able to move.

Saying “Hi” In His Own Way

I’ve been feeling the baby move lately! As he’s rapidly growing it’s become easy to differentiate between gas and kicks, especially since his movements have repeatedly been kicks to my ribs. For the most part, the movements have been quite sporadic. One day I feel nothing, the next it’s as if he’s eager to let me know of his presence.

Just yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting my brand new niece. As I was holding her for the first time, I could feel my son moving around more than ever! Is it possible babies can sense each other? Maybe I’m reading a little too much into things but it felt as though he was trying to reach out to his little cousin. In baby language he may have been saying, “I’m here too! I’ll meet you soon!”

It’s so strange yet so amazing when the baby moves. Right now it feels like twitches, which I can handle but friends of mine with children say this feeling only gets more intense as the pregnancy progresses!  I can only imagine right now what I’ll be feeling in a few weeks. I read a description online of what fetal movement feels like in the third trimester. One woman’s account of how she felt really gave me the best understanding; your baby’s movement can be compared to what a dryer must feel like as it tumble dries a full load. Interesting and probably pretty accurate!

I’m past the worries and stress of wondering how the baby’s doing because with every poke and kick to my rib, I’m comforted knowing my little boy is here with me and doing well.

This Symptom Really Stinks!

I can’t believe I’m sharing this, but I am so gassy. You hear of pregnant women who are gassy and always belching (among other things) but seriously this literally stinks!

I’ve read up on some embarrassing moments other women have had; breaking wind in public, belching at lunch meetings and so forth. Yes I was well aware of this, well, side effect, but never gave it much thought. Now that I’m pregnant I swear that my stomach balloons to triple its size by the end of the day, every day regardless of what I eat or don’t eat!

Most mornings, I wake up and take a good look at my belly and think “I don’t look so bad.” But as the day goes on, my stomach fills with gas making me look a good two to four weeks ahead of what I actually am! Luckily embarrassing moments have been nonexistent (with a few close calls). Do I think I’ll go through pregnancy without an embarrassing gas story? Not likely.

You see pregnancy and gas seem to go hand in hand. The more pregnant you are, the gassier you get. It just seems to be inevitable and unfortunately for you and everyone in the room, unavoidable.
